Have you ever wondered how you can transform an inherited piece of jewelry that isn't your style into something you will LOVE? Take a look at what Macy and I did!
This is the ring Macy inherited from her grandmother. While it was probably once a beautiful, trendy ring, nothing about this ring is Macy's style. Macy is getting married soon, so she wanted to transform this ring into her wedding band. She sent me a few inspiration photos, and I got busy pulling the stones out of the old ring and designing the new ring!
This band was designed using CAD software. Once she approved the CAD, the ring was 3D printed and cast in 14k white gold.
The next step was A LOT of filing, sanding, and polishing to remove all of the grow lines left by the 3D printer. One I had the mounting smooth and shiny, it was time to set the stones.
This style of setting is called bar setting. It is very similar to channel setting. The gaps in between the bars are slightly smaller than the actual stones. To fit the stones, a tiny bur is used to cut away a seat that the stone will fit down into. Then the tops of the bars are hammered straight down to snug everything up.
This ring turned out to be so much more elegant and sleek than the original ring! Macy loves it, and it complements her engagement ring so well! And the icing on the cake? She has enough stones left over to someday make a matching anniversary band!
