DO KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE
These tips are for gold, platinum, and sterling silver. If you aren't sure, see if you can find a stamp on the piece. 10K, 14K, 18K, 585, and 750 all refer to gold of different purities. Plat, 999, and 959 refer to platinum. Sterling, SS, or 925 refer to sterling silver.
DO USE WARM WATER WITH SOAP AND A SPLASH OF AMMONIA
I personally use a mixture of water, Simple Green, and ammonia in my ultrasonic.
DO NOT USE BLEACH!
Chlorine can degrade the alloys in gold and silver jewelry making it weak and brittle over time. This is a good time to remind you to take your jewels off before getting in a swimming pool or hot tub, too.
DO USE A SOFT TOOTHBRUSH
Lotion, soap scum, and dirt can build up underneath stones.
DO USE A POLISHING CLOTH
Treated polishing cloths are a great way to remove tarnish, especially from silver, and leave a lustrous shine! Get your treated polishing cloth here!
